Together with Homegrown National Park, we advocate for the widespread use of native plants to create habitats that support a diverse array of local wildlife, including essential pollinators such as bees, butterflies, birds, and other insects. Native plants play a crucial role in enhancing biodiversity and fostering sustainable ecosystems by providing food and habitat for a wide range of species.

Benefits of planting native

  • Adaptability: Native plants thrive in local conditions, making them effortless to grow and maintain.

  • Water Efficiency: Once established, native plants require minimal watering compared to non-native species.

  • Low Maintenance: They need little to no fertilizers or pesticides, reducing ongoing care.

  • Wildlife Attraction: Attract local wildlife such as birds, butterflies, and beneficial insects effortlessly.

  • Soil Health: Their deep roots enhance soil stability and fertility naturally.

  • Support Ecosystems: Contribute effortlessly to local biodiversity and ecosystem resilience.

What's a keystone plant?

Just like the "key" stone in a Roman archway, if you remove the stone, the arch collapses.  A multitude of native plants have been identified as keystone plants where as they support many species rather than one or a few.  If any of these native plants were to fall to extinction, a massive ecological collapse would soon follow.  Learn more at the Homegrown National Park - Keystone Plant Guides
